welcome The White Pines Cottage Resort is Eastern Ontario's premier four season vacation and fishing destination. It is situated on Black Donald/Centennial Lake, which at 27 miles long, makes it one of the largest lakes in Eastern Ontario. With hundreds of miles of pristine forests and waters, this beautiful waterway is predominantly surrounded by crown land creating an ideal setting for outdoor and nature enthusiasts. The White Pines offers year round lodging and numerous opportunities for relaxation, recreation and fishing (the nearest village is over 28km away). Enjoy a peaceful walk on our nature trails, paddle down the lake, or lie on the dock and listen to the symphony of the late night loon call. We have worked hard to provide warm hospitality in a relaxed family atmosphere and intimate setting. The most wonderful fishing and family vacation awaits you at The White Pines.

The White Pines is nestled in the heart of the Madawaska Highlands, part of the Ottawa Valley, which stretches from Ottawa, westward to the wilderness of Ontario's world renowned Algonquin Park. More than one half is wilderness, with 6 million acres of clean waterways, rolling hills and dramatic landforms. It is one of the most activity enriched regions in Ontario. The Madawaska Highlands follows the Madawaska River from Algonquin Park to Calabogie. This is a majestic hilly region with many wilderness acres, hardwood forests, and hundreds of lakes. Our secluded cottages are strategically placed within a gorgeous mature pine forest. The topography is a rugged wilderness setting which is habitat to abundant wildlife including deer, bear, moose, fox, wolves, otter, beaver and mink. Bird enthusiasts and photographers will be overwhelmed with over 60 species of birds.

float plans Anglers come from all over Canada and the US for the fishing prospects. Game fish species in Black Donald Lake include walleye (pickerel), smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, muskie, northern pike, channel catfish, whitefish, yellow perch, brown bullhead, burbot and rock bass. While many trophy fish have been caught here, it is mostly the stories of the one that got away that make it back to the campfire.

Centennial Lake Nature Reserve is protected for its unusual geographical feature and many rare plant species. It is a great day hike. While we have many attractions close by, including the championship Calabogie Highlands Golf course, downhill skiing at the Calabogie Peaks, and the Calabogie Motor Sport Track, we are far enough away to ensure an undisturbed and peaceful vacation. Ottawa, Canada's capital, only 130km away, is a unique destination where you can enjoy sightseeing, shopping, live theatre, a casino, and a sports arena that is home to the Ottawa Senators. An hour drive in the other direction takes you to Algonquin Park, one of Canada's largest and oldest Provincial Parks, located between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River.

Great pride is taken in keeping our lodgings sanitary and pristine and the grounds well maintained. Every year we put in over 6,000 flowers. NEWS 2017

The White Pines has always been a labour of love. To show appreciation for all of our wonderful clientele, it is second nature to put up more lights, add more trails, and plant more gardens. But more importantly, sit down and talk with all of you, and listen to your stories. We might even have some to share with you. We are super pleased to announce the birth of Emma, who is the first 5th generation to appear on our property.

Our hiking/cross country skiing trails are always being expanded and enhanced. We have had many extraordinary families vacation with us through the years and thought it only fitting to name our trails after friends who have passed on. Each cottage will have a map inside for you to take on the trail system. There are 17 distinct trails, loops and shortcuts that range from a mere 200 meters, to over 3.5 kilometers. In total we have spectacular trails covering over 20 kilometers. We love our gardens, so much in fact, that we made a greenhouse to start over 7000 annuals every year. The perennial gardens are lush and plentiful. Come and enjoy the daylily show throughout July, or walk through the shade gardens that are home to over 100 varieties of hosta's. While we might not boast as many tulips as the Ottawa Tulip Festival, more bulbs are planted every year for a stunning spring show.

Canada Day was once again a huge success, especially for Canada's 150 birthday bash. Generous contributions came from the cottagers and trailer owners at The White Pines as well as homeowners and cottagers on Black Donald Lake, creating one of the largest fireworks displays in the Calabogie area.

Ice Castle One of the most anticipated events here is the annual Ice Castle, but once again, Mother Nature denied us the opportunity in 2017. Our ice castle in 2014 was chosen by Fodors Travel Guide for their '10 Amazing Ice Castles around the World'. Cutting ice blocks out of the lake is nothing new to us. Up until 20 years ago, we cut 800 blocks of ice every winter to put into our ice house to sell the following summer. The saw frame, saws, ice tongs and mostly memories were collecting dust. It is a painstakingly long and hard project. But with the 2014 ice castle being chose as one of the world's best, the challenge is always on to build it bigger and better. Our last castle was completed in 2015. 925 blocks of ice blocks later yielded a building 30x30 with 3 square and 1 round turrets weighing approximately 60,000 lbs. Many people came out to help us as it took over 2-3 weeks to erect. The final product was featured in myFM radio station, The Renfrew Mercury, the Ottawa Citizen with a wonderful article by Bruce Deachman, and on TV with CTV's Regional Contact and Joel Haslam. Hundreds of people came with their families to enjoy it and take pictures day and night. It was absolutely overwhelming for us. The castle was always only built as a hobby and something to do 'just because we could'. We rely on people to come out and help us, and we will advertise in 2018 when we are about to begin the project.

The festival of lights for 2016/17 did not disappoint. Many hours went into decorating the cottages and surrounding gardens and trees. The White Pines is a charming holiday destination offering thousands of Christmas tree lights or gazing at natures own starlit nights. As you leave the hustle and bustle of the City behind, you can unwind in the most peaceful and serene vacation resort in Eastern Ontario.

The majestic Madawaska River has become well known to kayakers and paddlers. With hundreds of mile of shoreline that is mostly uninhabited, who wouldn't want to explore the most scenic lake in Eastern Ontario. Grab one of our kayaks, motor boats, canoes or paddleboats and discover the untamed beauty for yourselves.

Winter Walk The White Pines is a charming holiday destination throughout the year. Enjoy a romantic getaway for two and relax in front of a crackling fire. Bring your family and take pleasure in the many miles of scenic groomed trails. Bring your fishing boats to tackle some of the best fishing in Eastern Ontario. Throw in the tubes to tow your kids 27 miles up the river to Griffith and grab an ice cream cone at the store. This family resort caters to both the adventurous and those who just want to enjoy the quiet solitude of the wilderness. We are pleased to present vacation specials in the low season (Sept-June). Plan your vacation now to take advantage of these special rates, and for our American friends, the low dollar. Watch for summer specials being run on last minute cancellations.
