The White Pines Cottage Resort is Eastern Ontario's premier four season vacation and fishing destination. It is situated on Black Donald/Centennial Lake, which at 27 miles long, makes it one of the largest lakes in Eastern Ontario. With hundreds of miles of pristine forests and waters, this beautiful waterway is predominantly surrounded by crown land creating an ideal setting for outdoor and nature enthusiasts. The White Pines offers year round lodging and numerous opportunities for relaxation, recreation and fishing (the nearest village is over 28km away). Enjoy a peaceful walk on our nature trails, paddle down the lake, or lie on the dock and listen to the symphony of the late night loon call. We have worked hard to provide warm hospitality in a relaxed family atmosphere and intimate setting. The most wonderful fishing and family vacation awaits you at The White Pines.
The White Pines is nestled in the heart of the Madawaska Highlands, part of the Ottawa Valley, which stretches from Ottawa, westward to the wilderness of Ontario's world renowned Algonquin Park. More than one half is wilderness, with 6 million acres of clean waterways, rolling hills and dramatic landforms. It is one of the most activity enriched regions in Ontario. The Madawaska Highlands follows the Madawaska River from Algonquin Park to Calabogie. This is a majestic hilly region with many wilderness acres, hardwood forests, and hundreds of lakes. Our secluded cottages are strategically placed within a gorgeous mature pine forest. The topography is a rugged wilderness setting which is habitat to abundant wildlife including deer, bear, moose, fox, wolves, otter, beaver and mink. Bird enthusiasts and photographers will be overwhelmed with over 60 species of birds.
Anglers come from all over Canada and the US for the fishing prospects. Game fish species in Black Donald Lake include walleye (pickerel), smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, muskie, northern pike, channel catfish, whitefish, yellow perch, brown bullhead, burbot and rock bass. While many trophy fish have been caught here, it is mostly the stories of the one that got away that make it back to the campfire.
Centennial Lake Nature Reserve is protected for its unusual geographical feature and many rare plant species. It is a great day hike. While we have many attractions close by, including the championship Calabogie Highlands Golf course, downhill skiing at the Calabogie Peaks, and the Calabogie Motor Sport Track, we are far enough away to ensure an undisturbed and peaceful vacation. Ottawa, Canada's capital, only 130km away, is a unique destination where you can enjoy sightseeing, shopping, live theatre, a casino, and a sports arena that is home to the Ottawa Senators. An hour drive in the other direction takes you to Algonquin Park, one of Canada's largest and oldest Provincial Parks, located between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River.
Our charming lakeside cottages have been recognized as the most beautiful and well maintained in the area. There are 7 housekeeping cottages for your enjoyment, six two bedroom and one three bedroom. They have fully equipped kitchens, 4 piece baths and some feature fireplaces and jacuzzi tubs. There is wi-fi available in each unit and throughout the property. Outdoors there are fire pits, picnic tables and deck chairs. Most come with private docks, and all have private decks overlooking the lake. 3 of our cottages are kept open for the winter season. Great pride is taken in keeping our lodgings sanitary and pristine and the grounds well maintained. Every year we put in over 6,000 flowers. Stroll through the well manicured acreage, dotted with numerous perennial and annual gardens. The Drift Fence Gallery on site, offers wonderful prints of the wildlife and landscape from the surrounding area along with showcasing other local artisans.
Our resort is open all year so there is an abundance of activities in the area during all of the four seasons. In the spring there are the most colourful sunsets to photograph from the last lingering ice. In summer, we offer many amenities for you and your family to appreciate. Swim in the crystal clear water at the sand beach, or lie on your private dock, only a few feet away from the porch steps, and listen to the waves lapping at the shore. Paddle in the kayaks and canoes, or rent one of our motor boats and explore the lake. Experience the most colourful fall foliage show in the Ottawa Valley. Our private network of hiking trails covers many acres of unspoiled land. Go and see the beauty that nature has provided. Spend your holiday season in a winter wonderland surrounded by thousands of Christmas lights. During the spring/summer/fall, Black Donald Lake offers the finest recreational activities in the Ottawa Valley. During the winter months, our lake is transformed into a dreamland, with many miles to explore on x-country skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles or skates. We offer romantic getaway weekends, fishing vacations and memorable family vacations throughout the year.
